A brilliant Glow Room was featured at the Summit Academy – Cincinnati S.T.R.E.A.M. open house.

Since Summit Academy – Cincinnati community and secondary schools combined under one roof at the start of the school year, mutual support has brought perks such as the inception of the first-ever S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math/Music/Martial Arts) Open House. The April 9 event showcased a myriad of talents from students and staff members.

The event started during the school day when students were called by grade level to experience the Glow Room, presented by K-8 art teacher, library instructor and event coordinator Layla Evans. The school’s library was transformed into a neon-illuminated world filled with students’ artwork.

Students walked with their families through hallways and classrooms to view and explain their displayed art. In the high school, featured events included poetry readings in the Language Arts room, a bridge display, blueprints, engineering designs in the math room, and a video collage of rehearsals from the Summit Sounds music ensemble. The open house concluded with a therapeutic martial arts demonstration presented by Principal, Grandmaster Erwin McIntosh Jr. and Grandmaster Llewellyn Rogers.

“I am so proud of all our talented students! You could really see all the hard work and dedication that they had put into everything that was displayed,” Evans said. “I was also really impressed by the overall level of respect that everyone had for the projects and events that had been created. This event was definitely one to remember.”

Intervention specialist and high school science teacher Davis added, “The students should be proud to see their works on display. This may give them and their peers ideas for creative expression for years to come.”
