As technology keeps improving, it is becoming an integral part of learning. Not only is technology a great tool that opens students up to endless resources, but using the technological devices provided in school teaches students the value of using technology responsibly. Many of our Summit Academy Schools have Chromebooks and tablets available for student use. Each student is responsible for taking care of those devices as if they are their own.

Many Summit Academy classrooms implement Smart Boards, which work well for using visuals to teach the students. Visual learning is how many of our students learn best, so it is important that we provide tools to do so. It is proven that children with Autism respond better to pictures, visual cues, and interaction, and that’s what technology is all about. There is research around the benefits of Autistic children using technology, and many have found it is very helpful. Technology can promote a longer attention span and facilitate communication.

We encourage your children to use technology at home as well. There are many great apps and websites for children with Autism, ADHD, and Asperger’s that help improve their intellectual and social skills, and many educational games to help them better understand material they are learning in school.

Here is a list of apps that are proven to be very helpful for kids with Autism or other learning disorders:
