Bee Brown (parent of sixth-grader), Summit Academy Community School for Alternative Learners - CantonI wish that the teachers I have had the privilege of my children being taught by them knew just how much of an impact they’ve had. My son didn’t talk until starting kindergarten at Summit. These men and women who have been called to be teacher[s] and staff there are the closest I feel I will ever get to being in the presence of a TRUE super HERO!!!
Aimee DeCarlo, Warren Elementary MomI wanted to take a moment to thank you for all you do. Last year I felt so defeated. Karyna was calling home every day of school with headaches or stomachaches asking to come home. She didn’t go to recess to help avoid being picked on. My heart broke for my child constantly. I know there were still the tummy aches and headaches but you and her teachers got her through them.
This year the only day she missed was due to her hurting her knee and the doctor ordering she stay home. It is always going to be a learning process with Karyna, but seeing how much she has progressed has been such a burden lifted from me. I cannot thank you and your staff enough from that.
Last Year Isabella’s teachers were talking to me daily about her not sitting still and not focusing. By the end of the school year I just felt like my kid couldn’t do anything right. Let’s be completely realistic, Isabella is not a sit-still kid. She never will be. While she did have bad days at Summit too it wasn’t daily and Mrs. Coy could always find something good that she did.
Before the start of the school year I questioned if Summit would be the right school for my children. All I knew was where they were was not working. I no longer have any doubts. I can’t tell you how many phone calls, meetings, and tears were spent trying to get a game plan to make school bearable for my children to attend. I have not once this school year had to yell and scream and fight for them because I know their needs are being met.
I hope you go home after work and take a moment to bask in what a difference you make. You and your staff have touched my children in ways I will never be able to describe in words. I equally hope you are proud of what you have built. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate everything you and everyone in your building does and how incredibly grateful I am for all of you. Have a fantastic summer!
Middletown Secondary Staff MemberI have experienced firsthand the great things Summit Secondary Middletown does with its students. My brother was a student here growing up. After finishing a year of teaching at a school where I was very unhappy, I started my search for a new position and school. When I came in to interview, I immediately knew this is where I wanted to be. I felt comfortable the minute I walked in the door. I enjoy working with the students some would think are a challenge. Our staff is more like family and each one truly cares about our kids!
Middletown Secondary Staff MemberSummit Academy is indeed a special place. No two days are ever the same. No two students are the same. Each student has a different story and they have their own challenges. This is what make Summit Academy a special place to work. Nothing can compare to the excitement of watching a student’s face when they overcome a challenge or make advancement. It is these small victories that make coming to work every day worthwhile. The entire staff at Summit Academy works well together, because we choose to be here. We all have the desire to help our students of from good to great. And we all believe that this can and will be accomplished.
Middletown Secondary Staff MemberI work at Summit Academy because I have the opportunity to work with kids and families who really need the guidance and leadership of teachers who have Summit’s mission as an educational necessity. Every day brings new challenges and new successes for students who have been denied the opportunity to thrive at school in the traditional educational environment. We are a family here at Summit and it is so fulfilling as a teacher.
Summit Academy TeacherI truly believe every teacher has a strong desire to see the students succeed not only in the classroom, but in all areas of life. The administration’s lead and care for the teachers is another reason that Summit Academy is a great place to work. If there is a need in the classroom, the administration will do all things possible to make that happen. There always seems to be an air of creative fun when walking into the building. Then there are the students who, even though quirky, one cannot help but love. Even though we as teachers are met with many academic and emotional obstacles, teaching the students at Summit has been a rewarding challenge. Each day brings a new challenge of some sort and it has been an adventurous quest to provide them the best education as well as the life skills they need.
Middletown Secondary Staff MemberI love working at Summit Academy. It is the only job I have ever had in which I look forward to coming in every day. Summit has allowed me to experience all types of kids. Each kid is special in their own way and you can tell that Summit is helping them all to become better people. Summit is a true family that you cannot find at just any school.
Summit Academy TeacherSummit is a fabulous place to work because as a teacher you are able to help a very special group of students. These students are often bullied and left behind in a traditional school. At Summit, our students are given a safe learning environment. I love providing this for them. The co-teaching model is another thing that makes Summit a great place to work. Having a teacher to collaborate with makes my job more fun, and it make me a better teacher as well. Finally, the freedom to try new instructional techniques out that may help students is also a perk.
Middletown Secondary Staff MemberWe engage children where they are. We level the playing field. We work together for ALL students. We are a team! Summit Academy Middletown has the most amazing team of administrators whose guidance and support is phenomenal. The staff is hardworking, creative and loving. You would be hard pressed to find a group of teachers who care as much about their student as this staff. And the students!! Such wonderful and unique individuals that help make every day a wonderful adventure. I love my job!
Chris (student)I chose Summit Academy because no other school could handle me. They treated me like crap. When I came to Summit, I was welcome. You guys treat me like a regular person. Summit is the best school I’ve been to. I have friends, good teachers and an amazing Director. My parents love the school. They said I did a 180 – a night and day difference.
