Summit Academy – Lorain will host a national martial arts seminar with Kim, Jeong
Seong, founder of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo and a global ambassador of traditional Korean sword martial arts. The event will take place October 24–26 at the school, 346 Illinois Ave., Lorain. Kim will be traveling from Busan, Korea to lead this special event.
The seminar, titled “Follow the Energy,” will feature public sessions for martial artists as well as a special cultural and martial arts training session for Summit Academy – Lorain students. Seasoned martial artists and new learners alike will experience hands-on training, traditional Korean philosophy and movement, and an immersive focus on discipline, self-control and growth.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to bring this seminar to Summit Academy. My hope is that it will be a meaningful and educational experience that reflects Summit Academy’s mission of supporting diverse learners through innovative opportunities, and that it will leave warm and lasting memories for our students, teachers and community,” Kozak says.
Grandmaster Kim’s October 24 visit with the Summit Academy – Lorain students is a continuation of a lesson he presented to them virtually on June 16 as part of the school’s summer Therapeutic Martial Arts and Literacy Mini Camp. During the session, Grandmaster Kim emphasized key principles of martial training: focus, breathing and calmness.
“The lesson was clear. True strength is not only in the sword, but in the mind and spirit behind it,” Sensei Kozak explains. “This experience was about more than martial arts. It was about self-control, awareness and honoring our energy through movement. Grandmaster Kim reminded us that clarity and presence are just as important as physical skill.”
Funding for the event has been made possible through generous donations received by the Summit Educational Foundation, along with support from JSKR Haedong Kumdo, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
“The Summit Educational Foundation is privileged to help bring this exciting event to Summit Academy – Lorain and to our students, who continue to grow in confidence, focus and resilience through our therapeutic martial arts program,” says Kyle Baldwin, Coordinator of Fundraising & Enrollment. “Our students are fortunate to have an instructor like Sensei Kozak, who is deeply invested in their success.”
The seminar will take place at the school, on October 24, 6-8:30 p.m.; October 25, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and October 26, 9 a.m.-noon. For more information or to register ($188 fee), visit tinyurl.com/FollowTheEnergy.
