Summit Academy Curriculum Administrator Jessica Hahn, a literacy specialist and adjunct college instructor, will present at the “Resilience and Renewal: Adapting to Inspire Success” adjunct faculty conference, hosted by Tri-C, March 29.

Struggling college readers benefit greatly from an instructor of any discipline, who can help them navigate complex texts. Summit Academy Curriculum Administrator Jessica Hahn will come to the rescue of adjunct faculty members across Ohio and beyond with guidance on how they can best support their students’ reading comprehension.

Hahn, a literacy specialist and college instructor at the University of Cincinnati, will present “Enhancing Reading Comprehension: Applying Cognitive Load Theory in Content Instruction” at Tri-C’s 2025 Adjunct Faculty Conference on March 29.

At the virtual “Resilience and Renewal: Adapting to Inspire Success” conference, Hahn will delve into the topic of cognitive load. Understanding and managing cognitive load, she says, will aid instructors on their lesson creation and delivery.

“The session explores how cognitive load theory and the science of reading can enhance content instruction, particularly in reading-intensive courses,” Hahn says. “By applying evidence-based approaches, faculty can create more accessible learning experiences that promote academic resilience and deeper understanding.”

Hahn will provide her audience members with practical strategies to reduce cognitive overload among their students, improve their retention and comprehension and engage them with challenging material.
