Sociologist Dr. Brian Pendleton, a co-founder of Summit Academy’s signature Therapeutic Martial Arts Program, has been elected as a Director Emeritus of the Summit Academy Management Board.
Dr. Pendleton’s rich history with Summit Academy spans with service of over a decade on the board, including four years as president. A Professor Emeritus of Sociology at The University of Akron and past Research Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Dr. Pendleton has devoted his career to education. Among his many accolades, Dr. Pendleton received Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Researcher awards from UA and Outstanding Volunteer Faculty Award from NEOMED.
In addition to his work in higher education, which has been disseminated in nearly 75 peer-reviewed publications, monographs and technical reports, Dr. Pendleton is a practicing martial artist with an 8th degree black belt in karate and jujitsu. He created the original martial arts curriculum for Summit Academy Schools.
