Dear Summit Academy Families,
After careful consideration, all Summit Academy schools will be closed on April 8, 2024, when the total solar eclipse is set to occur.
This once-in-a-lifetime event is predicted to bring an influx of tourists to Ohio. Because the total eclipse will occur at dismissal time there is a safety concern about traffic congestion and delays around our schools. The surge in visitors could potentially strain cellular networks. The safety of our students and staff is the determining factor in making the decision to join other major Ohio school districts to close on April 8.
The path of totality will cross Ohio, including Akron, Canton and portions of Columbus, while hugging Cincinnati, Dayton and surrounding areas beginning at 1:59 p.m. and ending at 4:29 p.m. As you look up to watch the moon block the sun, be sure to wear special eclipse glasses to prevent infrared and ultraviolet light from harming your eyes.
Respectfully,
John Guyer
