Summit Academy – Youngstown Kindergarteners Honor Military Veteran Michael Prendergast, Dean of Students

^{Summit Academy – Youngstown kindergarteners celebrated their hero, Michael Prendergast, on November 10 for Veterans Day. Dean of Students Prendergast served in the Navy for 20 years before retiring in 2022.}

Kindergarteners at Summit Academy – Youngstown showered Dean of Students Michael Prendergast with gratitude as they sang songs in his honor for Veterans Day. Under the guidance of teachers Ariana Deal and Alyssa Lupo the students sang “See The Veteran,” “Oh So Brave,” “We Thank You For Your Service” and “On Veterans Day” in a surprise musical salute to the longtime Navy soldier on November 10.

“These kids have become an extension of my family and it completely melted my heart and made my day. It was very sweet,” says Prendergast, who served as a Mineman Senior Chief E8 for the United States Navy.

After 20 years of service and eight deployments to the Middle East, Prendergast retired in 2022.
