Youngstown area residents in need as well as those who would like to make donations are invited to take part in the first-ever Summit Academy – Youngstown Community Closet.
The Community Closet will provide free shoes, all-season clothing, bookbags, school supplies, Halloween costumes and more to school families and community members in need. Donations of these and other items, including clothing racks, can be made on Mondays and Fridays from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the school, 144 N Schenley Ave., Youngstown.
At the same address, the closet will open its doors to the community on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m.-12 noon.
“We envision a gigantic yard sale, with everything free to the public,” says Community Resource Coordinator Hycianna Grace, who adds that she would like to see the Community Closet become an annual school event.
School students, families and staff are rolling up their sleeves, sorting clothes and organizing donations for the event. In addition, they will be assembling Easter baskets for the school’s students as part of this year’s event.
“We are truly looking forward to having a positive impact on the Youngstown community and on our school community as well, by engaging as many of our students and families as possible in this worthy event,” Grace says.
