Summer of Stanley! Part 3
Summer of Stan (Part 3)
For more than 20 years, the Flat Stanley Project has connected over 6,500 students and classrooms in nearly 50 countries throughout the world annually. This summer, Summit Academy joined the trend that everyone from Jay Leno to President Barack Obama has taken part in by encouraging students to spend their vacation participating in the Flat Stanley Project and finding fun projects to do with him. Still need to make a Stanley? It’s not too late! Download your Stanley here.
How Stanley Spent His Summer Vacation
All summer we asked students to document their travels, adventures, and even learning activities with Flat Stanley. Now it’s time to share how Flat Stanley spent his summer vacation. Download the Flat Stanley Travel Journal for students to fill out, documenting their favorite moments of the summer. Then have students give a quick presentation to their classmates, including showing off their Stanley along with a few memories.
Adorn the Classroom with Stanley
Looking for a fun way to decorate the classroom for the new school year? Take inspiration from Flat Stanley and his travels. Create a bulletin board or an empty wall space and adorn it with the pictures, writings, and Flat Stanleys made by students all summer long. Make a giant map (United States or global, depending on the extent of Stan’s coverage) and chart out his travels. You can even create fun awards for students such as Farthest Distance or Weirdest Location. Or, take inspiration from a children’s literary icon and create a fun Stanley showcase in the style of Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Places You’ll Go! Have students create Flat Stanleys in the style of the book’s characters and surround them with their journal entries and photos! And don’t forget to share your finished wall or board!
