Summit Academy School for Alternative Learners – Lorain Elementary announces openings for area students entering grades kindergarten through fifth in the 2021-2022 school year. The school focuses on providing individual attention to students, including those with autism and ADHD.

With its small classroom sizes, Summit Academy – Lorain Elementary prides itself on providing students with an exceptional learning environment that ensures students receive both the academic and social and emotional support that they need to be successful in school and life, according to Principal Keegan Schoen.

“We have a really great, caring staff. They are very understanding of students’ needs and put students and families first,” says Schoen. He adds that each classroom includes two licensed educators: a general education teacher and intervention specialist or instructional assistant.

Schoen says students and families who previously felt discouraged or defeated in other academic settings experience a mindset switch at Summit Academy. “We see so much development happening with students turning into kids who love school and are intrinsically motivated,” Schoen describes.

Schoen says he and his staff serve the “whole student” on multiple levels and take family concerns into consideration wholeheartedly.

“If parents are looking for something more; if their child is falling through the cracks and they want a loving and caring environment that takes into account every aspect of a student, we could possibly be a great fit for you. We’re going to watch out for each student to not only reach their educational needs, but to also be a great person,” Schoen says.
