Summit Academy – Youngstown seventh-grade student Michael Bydo was honored with a medal and sports jacket at the Ja’Quan Lavender Fourth Annual Gold Gala in Wintersville, Ohio. Bydo is an active participant of The Prudent Man Academy, a weekly leadership program centered on empowering young men to become the best versions of themselves. He was one of a handful of students to receive the honor.

During the event, Bydo presented a speech to extend his gratitude to Lavender, CEO and founder of The Prudent Man Academy. He also thanked his parents for their love, understanding and compassion; and the entire Summit Academy staff.
“I believe the world would be a better place if everyone lived their life a little more prudently,” Bydo said during his presentation.
Describing what being prudent means to him personally, Bydo reflected on advice his father gave him, to prepare as a future driver.

“Never expect the other person will follow the rules. Second, always stay calm and in control. That applies to life,” he said. “What a prudent man is to me is someone who uses common sense and caution.”
Bydo’s comments drew loud applause from the audience, which included his parents, Salli and Steven Bydo, Principal Becky Ellis and English teacher Jacob Zinni.
Summit Academy – Youngstown has partnered with Lavender and the mentorship academy since the start of the school year. Available to sixth- and seventh-grade boys, the program was established to equip students to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and purpose by instilling values of integrity, resilience and strength.
