Straight out of the chute, 2025 Summit Academy graduate Anna Barnett landed a job at her alma mater.
“This is a dream come true, really,” says Barnett, reflecting on her new position as a food service member at Summit Academy Transition High School – Dayton.
Ready to show she has what it takes to shine at her new job, Barnett has already completed a four-hour Person-in-Charge course in food safety and an additional three hours of USDA training for the National School Lunch Program, according to Director of Food Services Gina Nash.
“Anna is very enthusiastic about her new role at the school and is excited to be on
the other side of food service,” says Nash. “She’s off to a great start and eager to serve her former classmates and customers.”
Her first job, the food service position allows Barnett to manage the kitchen smoothly and efficiently. “What I enjoy most is that I can run the kitchen the way it needs to be,” she says.
Principal Lisa Brown and Assistant Principal Sara Schmidt say they are quite proud of Barnett and will look to her to serve as an inspirational mentor for their current high school students.
“We are hopeful that Anna being employed here will allow our students to see a real-life example of success beyond the classroom,” says Schmidt. “This year, our students are taking on community service projects and jobs within the school and one of these jobs will allow students to work alongside Anna as an inspiration for future career opportunities.”
Barnett is delighted to be that beacon of inspiration to Summit high school students. Her advice to them is simple. “Do what you need to do because you never know what opportunities will come your way,” she says.
