Summit Academy – Middletown is the lucky recipient of $700 in donated supplies ranging from notebooks and pencils to snacks and wipes. Steel tube fabricator PTC of Middletown made the generous donation.

The company selected Summit Academy as its charity of choice for its Health and Safety Fair fundraiser earlier this month. Each year, the fair includes a charity event to benefit a local nonprofit organization.

The event featured a catered lunch from Brent’s BBQ, a cornhole tournament and a closest-to-the-pin golf competition. Employees also had the chance to win raffle prizes provided by PTC’s corporate office, including a treadmill, an adjustable dumbbell set and a digital food scale.

This year, instead of the traditional dunk tank, event organizers introduced a new activity: “Pie Your Supervisor.” Summit Academy parent Lesley Clemens, a production clerk for PTC and event organizer, said the pie event alone raised more than $450 for Summit Academy.

Fifteen managers and supervisors participated, with employees enthusiastically ensuring that no one went unscathed, says Clemens. Each pie (a plate of Cool Whip) also earned participants a raffle ticket for prizes, including a Milwaukee jobsite radio, a Yeti cooler, a Bengals cooler and a utility wagon. After the last pie was thrown, employees capped off the day with a fun and spirited water balloon fight, creating memories that will not soon be forgotten.

Clemens expressed her appreciation for the company’s leadership team, whose ongoing support makes the charity fundraiser possible each year, she said. Clemens also praised Principal Kristen McClanahan-Parkes for her dedication and positive impact on her students.

“Mrs. Parkes is a phenomenal human being that is obviously fully invested in these kids. Every school should be so lucky as to have a principal like her, and it has truly been an honor and privilege to do this,” said Clemens, adding that she hopes to install Summit Academy as the charity on record for future PTC safety fair fundraisers.
