As the new Assistant Principal of Summit Academy Transition High School – Dayton, Sara Schmidt will focus her dedication where she has since the start of her career: on her students.
Now in her sixth year at Summit Academy, Schmidt most recently served as a curriculum administrator for the southern schools. Prior, she was an instructional coach at Summit Academy Community School – Dayton. As an assistant principal, Schmidt will be responsible for daily school operations, parent communication, scheduling, and staff development and communication, among other responsibilities.
“No matter what my title is, I will always be a teacher first and foremost,” she says. “I am passionate about helping students, families and educators develop the skill set they already have in any way I can. I always advocate for students to receive the best education possible.”

Schmidt says she was drawn to Summit Academy’s mission and is honored to serve its students and families. “My passion for education has never died down and that is because there is still work to be done and I am still able to contribute meaningfully,” she adds.
Schmidt earned her B.S. in early childhood education from Urbana University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She continued her education at American College of Education where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. She holds a Pre-K-3 educator licensure and Pre-K-6 principal licensure.
Schmidt describes motherhood as her greatest blessing. She and her husband, Josh, have two daughters, Irie, 3, and Audrie, 1, whom she says, “make every day a learning opportunity and bring so much joy.”
